Dr. Dhimant Balar is a Fellowship Trained and Board Certified physician. In fact, he is one of the very few doctors in Central New Jersey who is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and in Sports Medicine.
After obtaining his medical training at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Balar completed an Internal Medicine residency at SUNY Stony Brook in Long Island, NY. He then went on to a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the prestigious Pennsylvania Hospital which is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania.
His Sports Medicine Fellowship was a natural progression for someone who is passionate about sports and brings that passion to the practice of medicine. A native of Rhode Island, Dr. Balar was a highly competitive baseball player and All-State Athlete. He retains an avid interest in sports of all kinds.
Dr. Balar believes firmly in a philosophy of treating the entire patient rather than simply what an x-ray might reveal. It is an integrative, holistic approach to medicine that includes the best elements of a variety of techniques ranging from exercise and nutrition to physical therapy and sports psychology.
That all-encompassing approach to medicine has without question been part of the reason that Dr. Balar has been honored with the Patient’s Choice Award every year since 2008. He has also received the Vitals Compassionate Physician Award, and was most recently selected as one of the Top Doctors in New Jersey for 2017.
Dr. Balar has worked with both amateur and professional athletes. While in Philadelphia he was an integral part of the medical team for the city’s top professional teams Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers, Phantoms, and the city’s professional soccer team, the KIXX. He also worked with a range of amateur athletes from local high schools and colleges in the area, including Rowan University and Eastern University.
He is a former Director of Sports Medicine and Human Motion Institute at Raritan Bay Medical Center. He now acts as a consultant to the Institute.
He is also an Associate Director of the Spine Institute of Central Jersey at the Centra State Medical Center. In addition to being a consultant and school physician for Freehold Township High School, he also consults with the Meridian Health Care System as an Occupational Physician.
Dr. Balar is married and enjoys all outdoor activities, traveling, spending quality time with family. He also remains active in sports; particularly enjoying golf, volleyball and baseball.
